Cracks and Chips in My Windshield – Repair or Replace?

Hi everyone,

I recently noticed a small chip on my car’s windshield, right in the driver’s line of sight. I’m unsure whether I should get it repaired or if replacement is necessary. How do you determine when a windshield is beyond repair?

Are there specific types of chips or cracks that are more dangerous? Also, do DIY repair kits actually work, or is it better to go to a professional?

I’m concerned about safety, visibility, and long-term costs.

Any advice, experiences, or recommendations for reputable services would be greatly appreciated!

You don't mention what model you have, IF you have Full Comp with Glass cover, many insurance Co's will give you free (or £10) repair with some Windscreen companies. Check you Policy paperwork to see if you have cover.
If you don't have cover, try local Windscreen companies if they do the repair service.
Best of all is a new screen, which with Glass Cover may only cost £80 - £100 in XS. It won't be regarded as a claim.
